An introductory 12 hour course of Arabic language and culture for beginners covering ice-breaker communication, small talk and basic cultural and business etiquette.
Duration: 4 weeks, 12 hours
Language topics covered:
meeting and greeting people
introducing yourself
thanking people and responding positively
replying to some basic questions
saying where you are from
Cultural topics covered:
Arriving in the Arab world
Tips and useful phrases when meeting people
Being received by an Arab host
Tips and useful phrases when entering a house
Visiting an Arab home
Tips and useful phrases when being offered something to drink.
Criteria
The learner has spent at least 12 hours learning the Arab language and learning about Arab culture with the "First Steps in Arabic" online course.
Furthermore, by successfully completing the online test, the learner has proven that he or she can:
- meet and greet people in Arabic,
- introduce himself or herself and say where they come from,
- read, recognise and speak key Arabic words,
- reply to some basic questions,
- thank somebody and respond positively.
The learner can also demonstrate a basic knowledge of the following cultural topics:
- Arriving in the Arab word
- Meeting and greeting people
- Visiting an Arab home
- Basic etiquette when entering a private home
- Basic etiquette when being offered refreshments
The learner can also demonstrate a basic understanding of Arabic sounds, including emphatic sounds, and how to pronounce selected Arabic words.
The learner can also demonstrate a basic understanding how to combine nouns and adjectives and how to expresses wishes and requests.
